The longtime british indie rock band Wolf Alice has delivered a lively, trendsetting music for many years now. Their third record Blue Weekend, who went out on June 4th, is everything we were hopping for and more. It reminds us what it feels to be human and to have social relationships after a blackout year.
There’s no band like Wolf Alice, and definitely no album like Blue Weekend. It is colorful and dizzying, yet emotional and mature. The lead singer Ellie Roswell is among the best female indie artists and her band is the absolute cream of english music.
Hopping between alternative, indie rock, sometimes punk and folk, Wolf Alice New Album has a lot of potential to reach the podiums of the rankings and the awards. After dropping almost one song per month since February and creating such an intense curiosity in the fanbase, June signed off the end of this unbearable suspense. Here is a full Wolf Alice album review in which you can dive with us track by track.
The Beach
The built up of the first song of this Wolf Alice album review is everything we could expect from an opus of this scale. It is slow, powerful and one hundred percent mastered. The harmonies and rhythms are simply genius.
Delicious Things
Delicious Things is the ultimate song about twenty-ish peeps having to deal with drug tentations. Lyrically, it’ll speak to many people as it’s pretty common to get offered drugs in the street. Musically, it was everything we could’ve hoped from Wolf Alice album 3. Ellie Roswell did the song amazing with her impressive high to low voice range. The band flawlessly mastered the swim between garage rock and folk in the blink of an eye.
Lipstick On The Glass
This Wolf Alice new song sounds like the Wolf Alice from start to finish. Roswell served her high and smooth notes on a silver plate with a powerful background production and a never-seen title. It pictures the tension of wanting the forget an ex because you miss him even if he doesn’t deserve it. One of the best verses is “oh, my body deceive me, just as did yours, though we’re fighting different wars in our ways, oh but there’s no pleasure of resisting, so go ahead and kiss me”.
Smile
Smile is the second single, it was part of the best new songs of the month of April. It is one of the most energetic tracks on this album, with Play the Greatest Hits. The very essence of the song is to scream that they are who they are and they don’t care about anybody else’ opinions. Whatever what others might think of you, be yourself because there’s no better version of yourself than the one you feel the most comfortable in. Smile!
Safe From Heartbreak (if you never fall in love)
Safe From Heartbreak is a little bit shorter than the others on the record. The message is as powerful nonetheless. Yes, you can definitely be safe from any kind of emotions if you choose not to feel or live anything. However, any kind of emotions also include a whole lot of good ones too.
How Can I Make It OK?
Ellie Roswell’s screaming notes will hit very close from home for many people. This song is by far one of the most emotional of this Wolf Alice new music. You can feel every word of the song reflecting inside your own body even though it’s a studio version, so I can’t imagine how it’ll sound live at a Wolf Alice gig! With it, the future of live music is well assured.
Play The Greatest Hits
You’re more into punk music? Wolf Alice got you covered! This one would be a live representation of the increase of your heart beat at every beat of the music. Getting lost in the music in order to stop your thoughts and just live the moment without questioning it.
Feeling Myself
Feeling Myself is a love song, but not the one we’re used to. It’s actually a song about how important self love and being aware of your own feelings is before loving anyone else. It’s not about numbers, there’s no race, it’s all about feeling yourself. Musically, it’s once again very coherent and fluid.
The Last Man on Earth
The last Man On Earth was the first song to come out of the album, and we must say it has a special savior. Part of the new music of February 2021, but also definitely Wolf Alice best song. Well, one of their many best songs! The very delicate beginning grows to a much more assertive tone, for the crowd’ biggest pleasure.
No Hard Feelings
No Hard Feelings is about feeling in peace with people and moments, that once were pressuring you. It’s already hard enough to break up and there’s no hard feelings needed! The tone of Roswell smooth vocals fits the song perfectly. It went out with the top songs of May 2021 as the third single of the album, and we totally get why. It was a beautiful preview of the rest of the album.
The Beach II
What a beautiful closure to end the Blue Weekend chapter but a smooth note, named after the opening song. In The Beach II, Roswell confidently leaves her whispers and screams for a perfect in-between reassuring ballad.
Overall, I listen to a lot of new music releases every week but this album really is one a kind. Wolf Alice new album 2021 is so close to perfection, and I don’t really know what’s holding me back from saying it is. This record is elegant, professional and still very relatable. All the tracks are different and yet they fit so well with each other. Well done, Wolf Alice!
