Mykonos instagram spots: best sea spots
1. Little Venice
Little Venice Mykonos is a quaint, romantic place that features houses built out over water and supported by pillars. It’s located right in the heart of the port of Mykonos.
On one side, there are the impressive windmills and on the other, you can find the white washed cubic houses with colorful doors and balconies.
In the middle, the sea and waves crash against the island. If you ask us, there’s no better spot to take a stunning instagrammable picture!
You can take photos from the windmills, the beach or the small white coast path. Restaurants along the coast also offer incredible views of Little Venice.
📍 Location: Mykonos Old Town
🌤️ Best time to visit: any time of the day, but early in the morning to have the old port to yourself and feel the energy of the place when there are only locals.
2. Windmills of Mykonos
Windmills are such a picturesque landmark of the island of Mykonos. There are 16 windmills on the island in total, but 7 of them are located on the hill of Chora, in front of the old port.
Those 7 windmills can also be found under the name of Kato Mili. The windmill on top of the Oia hill is called Boni’s Windmill and is a museum that you can visit and take stunning pictures at.
They were used to mill wheat until the middle of the 20th century. Now, the Mykonos windmills are a stunning sight to see, and visitors can’t help but be drawn towards them!
Their white walls and round shape fit very well in Mykonos’ landscape and architecture. When you visit Mykonos instagram spots, you’ll quickly notice that there is a blue and white winning combo.
The white color reflects the sun and the blue roofs reflect the sea. It is definitely one of Mykonos best sunset spots.
📍 Location: Mykonos Old Town
🌤️ Best time to visit: sunset
3. Mykonos Old Port
The area of the windmills of Mykonos and Little Venice is called the Old Port. Its stunning landmarks make this area one of the most animated and charming parts of the island.
The Old Port of Mykonos has been replaced by the new port, 2 kilometers (1,2 mile) away. Nowadays, it’s where all passenger ferries arrive. At the Old Port, there’s a small beach between the windmills and Little Venice.
However, you will most likely end up sitting at one of the coastal bars or restaurants to enjoy the breathtaking views. It is the best place to see the sunset in Mykonos.
📍 Location: Old Port
🌤️ Best time to visit: sunrise, lunch or dinner time
4. Petros the Pelican
Yes, you read that right. You cannot visit the Old Port of Mykonos without trying to see the absolute icon of the island, Petros the Pelican. Petros is the mascot bird of Mykonos and has a very unique story.
Back in 1958, a fisherman rescued and healed a wounded pelican that didn’t leave his side for the rest of his life. He became an icon in the old port and all the fishermen were sharing their catch with him.
Since the original Petros died, 3 other pelicans chose Mykonos as their home. You can see them parade along the old port multiple times a day, under the mesmerized eyes of tourists.
It’s not every day that you can see and interact with a pelican, right? What’s really funny about those big white pelicans is that they will pose for your Mykonos instagram pictures.
They actually like to be around tourists and being the center of attention (and they get easy food, obviously!). People like to find funny Mykonos instagram captions for their pelican’s pictures.
📍 Location: Old Port
🕐 Best time to see Petros: early in the morning or at lunch

Of all the alleys in Mykonos old town, Agias Paraskevis is one of the prettiest for a reason. All the doors and balconies on this street are painted blue.

Mykonos or Santorini?
These two islands are often compared as the best-known Greek islands, and for good reason. Mykonos and Santorini offer the same number of opportunities to take incredible Instagram photos.
The old town of Mykonos is very touristy, but the rest of the island is wilder. You can take photos without being bothered by other people.
On the other hand, we’d say that most of Santorini is known to tourists. You may have to wait to take photos, or use your photoshop skills to make them disappear from the picture.
Santorini, however, is more photogenic, with its breathtaking villages set atop black rock cliffs.
In short, these two islands have their pros and cons, but they’re both equally wonderful. If you want to visit Santorini, here’s the best way to explore Santorini in 4 days.
