Put your headphones on, the world off and press play on the one day in Bangkok song by Murray Head, cause that’s today’s topic ! Almost all the international Thailand flights arrive in Bangkok, but most people don’t stay too long in the capital city because there’s so much to see in the whole country that even a month wouldn’t be enough. If that’s your case, this Bangkok 24 hours is for you.
How to spend one day in Bangkok and make the most of your time ? I’m very used to spending very little time in big cities during stopovers while optimizing my time to visit all the must sees. You can check out Shanghai Stopover or Singapore layover articles. Here’s a detailed Bangkok Visit guide !
First thing first, to go to the city centre from Suvarnabhumi Airport, you have two options. You can either find taxis (very easily), or take the S1 Bus for 60 baths. Both are within an hour’s drive, so I think the bus is more worth it ! For more travel advice, check out this Thailand holidays on a budget guide. Then, treat yourself with a nice breakfast among the hundreds of restaurants you’ll run into.
Bangkok Temples : The Emerald Buddha Temple
Of course, you won’t be able to visit all the Bangkok temples in one day but you can still get a good overview of them. This temple, also known as Wat Phra Kaew, is an unavoidable stop. This is the biggest Bangkok temple and definitely the most impressive one if you want my opinion ! He’s located in the historic centre of Bangkok and, like every temple in Thailand, you won’t be let in if you don’t wear something that covers your ankles and shoulders. Just carry it in your bag because it’s way too hot for you to wear it all day long. If you don’t have anything, there will always be fabric merchants at the entrance.
Bangkok Temple : The Lak Muang Temple
You just need to cross the street to find the second stop, which is very convenient when you’re on a Bangkok 24h rallye ! This one is a little smaller but still very eyes pleasing. People are praying, covering the statues with gold papers, burning incense sticks… It’s an amazing place to find your inner peace and relax.
Bangkok must see one day : Jim Thompson House
Now let’s dive into another place of history and culture now. This house was built in the 50s’ by the famous architect, businessman and American adventurer Jim Thompson. His ambition was to revive the Thai silk industry, which was in decline at the time. Red walls, green plants, nenuphar… It definitely doesn’t feel like you’re in a capital. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit in Bangkok.
Bangkok Park 24 : Lumpini Park
Visiting a city like Bangkok in 24 hours can get pretty intensive. Chilling in a park can rest your legs for a moment. Lumpini Park is one of the biggest parks of the city. It’s the absolute perfect place to chill, run or even enjoy a picnic. You’ll also meet nice creatures such as big lizards enjoying their day. Just chillin’ too, you know !
Our one day in Bangkok also happened to be a Buddha Celebration Day so there were a lot of special events, such as soldier’s walks, free entrances to temples, offerings of flowers and incense… We even stayed stuck in a temple because the Thailand King was about to drive past it. Definitely something to remember.
I hope this Bangkok one day tour guide helps you plan your gateway to the capital of Thailand. Don’t miss out on all the cool places near Bangkok for one day trip, a week trip or even a month trip, like Koh Tao, the paradise island of your dreams.
